What it’s like to attend the British Fashion Awards 2015

So, for all my fashionistas out there reading this, as you probably all know: tonight, Monday was the British Fashion Awards. It’s such a huge deal for the fashion scene in London, and I’m so glad I was able to attend! Let’s debrief the coveted night, shall we?

(For a look at all the amazing fashion, check out this gallery on ELLE! Note: I know I normally post red carpet fashion reviews, but since everyone was dressed so ahmazingly, the review would have been boring. So, settle for my inside, firsthand peek at what the event is actually like!)

By the time I arrived to the London Coliseum, the street was blocked off in anticipation and a queue formed down the block for non-famous attendees. As I positioned myself in line, I looked around at the fashions around me: stunning, both men and women alike. It really is true what they say about London being one of the most fashionable cities– this event brought out the most stylish of ensembles from everyone in attendance.

I’m on the red carpet!

IMG_5680

Feeling official.

I wait in line (there was a slight delay in programming). And finally the red carpet beneath my feet leads me to the official sign where all the paparazzi photos are taken from (see above.) Pinch me, I must be dreaming. I follow the crowd, walk inside and up the steps to the balcony. Upon entering the room, I’m struck by how gorgeous the building is, and then right in the center of the floor were hundreds of guests eating dinner and mingling (see below.) I couldn’t stop staring at the sheer amount of gorgeous gowns and tailored tuxes.

I find my seat: Row D of the balcony, not too shabby. I take a seat and am so excited for the show to start.

IMG_5682

A view from wayyy up in the balcony…

British comedian Jack Whitehall starts the show by discussing the immense talent of British designers, the true legends in the room (cough cough Lagerfeld) and poking fun at some famous attendees (Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell included.)

IMG_5686

Comedian Jack Whitehall starts the show with some jokes!

With every moment that went on, I couldn’t believe that I was really here with these hugely influential names in front of me, all together celebrating the bright talents of British fashion.

IMG_5687

Rosie Huntington Whitely and Nick Grimshaw, the first presenters! Love her dress, btw!

IMG_5691

The runway show to celebrate 2015 in fashion. I honestly thought the construction workers were going to pull a Magic Mike type of thing: they did not.

IMG_5693

Surprise! Lady Gaga sashays down the catwalk to accept the award on behalf of Tom Ford.

IMG_5695

Congrats Jourdan Dunn on her Model of the Year award! And Oliver Rousteing of Balmain presented it to her, selfie stick in hand, and asked her to twerk instead of giving her speech.

IMG_5697

ANNA WINTOUR.

IMG_5704

PINCH ME I MUST BE DREAMING… That  legend and icon Karl Lagerfeld was really in the same room as me.

IMG_5707

Another icon, Naomi Campbell presenting Burberry with the Creative Campaign award for its outstanding social skills.

IMG_5718

The British public have spoken! They named FKA Twigs their style star. And she was so sweet dedicating the award to her mum and grandmother who has “sassy legs.”

IMG_5719

The British public have spoken! They also named Gwendolyn Christie their style star. And she is so tall in real life.

IMG_5721

Karlie Kloss makes an appearance! Woo, that makes two of us from my hometown in attendance!

IMG_5723

Celeb crush of all time? Mr. Orlando Bloom.

IMG_5725

That’s a wrap!

IMG_5726

One last view….

I grab my goodie bag and follow the crowds out of the building to the tune of Justin Bieber’s “Sorry.” I walk outside where suddenly I’m being pelted by raindrops. I scurry down the street and find that a pub has an overhang I can stand under until my Uber driver arrives. Many people have the same idea, including one winner from the night. Guess who? CHRISTOPHER BAILEY, aka the genius behind Burberry’s biggest moments, AND he was standing right beside me for a moment in time. I still can’t believe THAT happened.

Ah, that was such an incredible night to celebrate the best of fashion here in London. I had an incredible time and truly enjoyed every moment of it. Definitely one of my favorite nights in London all semester and a memory I’ll always treasure…

Paging Monsieur Lagerfeld… at the Mademoiselle Prive exhibition

Hi all! I’m back after quite a fashion-involved morning here in London. So, the Saatchi Gallery is currently hosting the “Mademoiselle Prive” exhibit, featuring the careers of Gabrielle Chanel to Karl Lagerfeld at the Chanel brand. It’s a “journey through the origins of Chanel’s creations capturing the charismatic personality and irreverent spirit of Mademoiselle Chanel and Karl Lagerfeld.” And it was nothing less than pure perfection. I loved it! And luckily, I didn’t have to queue to get in as I saw a long queue waiting to enter upon my exit. I thought I’d give you a sneak peek of the exhibit below with some photos:

This is a fantastic exhibit, and I highly highly highly recommend to anyone that’ll be in London through November! It’s so worth it!

[London] Fashion Week and I

After a week of classes and writing essays, I decided a fun weekend was in order. And so, that’s what this post will be primarily focusing on! So, as you may know, this month is Fashion Month all over the globe (and this past week was London Fashion Week).  This weekend was London fashion Weekend, a chance for regular people like me to see catwalk shows, shop the pop-up shows, hear industry-based talks and experience the craziness of fashion week. Here’s some pictures of my time! I loved it! .

Saatchi Gallery: home of the event!

IMG_4761

The House of Holland show was incredible! The designs were amazing! And it was so cool to attend a fashion show– and sit second row!

Extra, extra! Press box.

Now, onto that fabulous collection!

IMG_4791_2The show was absolutely amazing! Henry Holland’s collection was truly breathtaking. He will work with several different prints and colors in one outfit, and it will turn out so cute. Can he design clothes for the rest of my life? This collection is gorgeous. Then, after the show, I went straight upstairs to make it to the one industry talk I was really interested in: a panel on careers in fashion! It was so neat to hear from a bunch of executives in the fashion industry, from magazines, fashion houses and communications firms. It was so cool to hear! Then, I went back to the pop-up shops again for a last-minute browse before heading out.

Emmy’s Fashion Review

Last night was the Emmy Awards, and I have a lot of thoughts on the fashion I saw on the carpet. So, shall we get started?

January-Jones So, I like January Jones jumpsuit. The color is nice, the tailoring is good, her hair works. However, I’m not crazy about the starfish pendant that attaches to the “mermaid tail” type of this. It’s just odd.

Tatiana-Maslany There was a huge trend on the red carpet with women wearing pants. Not just any pants, but very unflattering pants. Case in point, Tatiana Maslany of “Orphan Black.” First, I like the concept of the white, tailored jacket with the hair. However, the hair is the only thing perfectly tailored here. The jacket is too big and too long and the pants… the pants!! Not only are they wrinkled, but look at how much it gathers around the crotch area. *shudders* And her black shoes do not match the all-white getup and the middle strap is weird too.

.Maisie-Williams Maisie Williams from “Game of Thrones:” I really like the dress and her hair, she’s young, so it works… And then you pan down to her shoes. I feel like those went out of  style in the 90s… as dress-up shoes. Just rip off the marabou, and you would have been fine.

Jaimie-Alexander Jaimie Alexander is wearing a gorgeous Armani Prive. What’s not so gorgeous is the poor fit, and the fact she must have been completely sweating in that L.A. heat.

Kiernan-Shipka “Mad Men” darling Kieran Shipka looks so cute in this frock. I like how since she’s so young, she’s taking a fashion risk… that paid off. (Think Emma Watson at the Oscars in that pantsuit.) The top is cute and playful: the only instance yellow on this red carpet worked.

Laura-Prepon I love this super high fashion dress on Laura Prepon! The color, the cape-y thing, her pale skin with dark hair, it just works. Love it.

Amanda-Peet I like the concept of this dress here on Amanda Peet, but I do think that triangle cutout thing is way to big for the long gown.

Gina-Rodriguez I love this “wedding” gown on Gina Rodriguez! Love the rosettes and the fabric. However, no necklace and the hair pulled back is making her look way too bridal.

Claire-Danes I like dress on Claire Danes, however, the chain link sideboob strap is a little strange and the neckline, not a fan. But, the color, sequins and shape of the dress work well.

Emma-Roberts Emma Roberts: BEST DRESSED OF THE WHOLE NIGHT. Everything is flawless for the “Scream Queens” star and my fellow camp alum. Her dress looks ahmazing, tailored to perfection, the belt is gorge and her hair looks perfect. Great job. Highest fashion honors.

Heidi-Klum Heidi Klum is a hot mess for the “Project Runway” host. First, yellow is not a color anyone can really pull off (red carpet or otherwise). Also, the sheer is a little too sheer and that one-sleeve 70s jacket sleeve is hideous… I mean, you can see the unfinished edges of the fabric! 100% the worst dressed.

Taylor-Schilling Taylor Schilling: another victim of the yellow dress curse. However, this one looks like she had to get dressed as they were still making it, as the top looks like they put the needle and thread through the top of it and tied it around her neck. Looks like a wardrobe malfunction is imminent.

Ariel-Winter Ariel Winter stuns in Romona Keveza, love it. It looks a little too Oscars or Golden Globes, not the Emmys and it looks too old on the teenager.

Sarah-Paulson Love Sarah Paulson’s dress, the shape, the color, the sleeves, everything! I just feel like I’ve seen it before. Meh.

Amy-Poehler First things first, I’m not a fan of Amy Poehler’s new died hair, it doesn’t work. Second, the bangles! How many horrendous WOODEN bracelets did she pile on? It looks like a preschool class’s art project is on display. And I’m not a fan on the wide cutouts on the dress here.

Sarah-Hyland Zac Posen created such an amazing look for Sarah Hyland! Love it! The hair and jewelry all complement the dress fabulously. Bravo, Zac. You’ve done it once again.

Maggie-Gyllenhaal I love this Peter Copping for Oscar de la Renta gown that Maggie  Gyllenhaal is wearing! Gorge! Love it! She looks flawless. Side note, did you see Allison Williams’ wedding dress that was custom made by Copping: truly gorgeous.

Tracee-Ellis-Ross Another Zac Posen stunner on Tracee Ellis Ross. Love the little details between each “tier.”

See-Every-Fashion-Moment-From-Emmys-Red-Carpet And no red carpet review could be complete without Kerry Washington. Love the length and interesting material: it works well and she is always styled to perfection, much like her television counterpart.

See, lots of opinions! Now, I want to hear your thoughts on the looks! And how did Andy Samberg do at hosting (loved his suit jacket from the carpet)?

Cheers from London with a Fashion Update

Hi from England! I’m currently in the midst of my first week in London on study abroad (for all my abroad adventures check out my travel blog here.) and I’ve been a bit obsessed with the fashion scene while I’ve been here so far.

First, today I had much-needed visit to some British fashion meccas: Harrods and Topshop. (And they were right across the street from each other… Lucky, huh?!? It’s perfect.) Also, since I’ll be here for London Fashion Week, I’ll definitely try to post reviews of collections once they are available or even a review of street style (Love the chicness of the native London citizens! Everyone is dressed to the nines! I feel right at home with my trench coat, wellies and riding boots.)

IMG_4565Now, on to the real purpose of this blog post. So, this past Sunday as I wandered through Kensington Gardens (literally right across the street from my flat), I stopped in to visit Kensington Palace (and I swear Prince Harry was leaving via helicopter as I arrived!) and saw such an AHMAZING fashion exhibit! It’s called “Fashion Rules” and features loans of gowns worn by the Queen, her sister Princess Margaret and Princess Di. Definitely recommend for any other fashion fanatics and those obsessed with the royal family (which is like all of America, lol).

The gowns were unreal to see in person, so I thought I’d share them below.

IMG_4568

Vogue images from over the years (to correspond with the decade’s trends) lined the walls!

Gowns worn by the Queen (now officially Britain’s longest reigning monarch):

IMG_4566

IMG_4567

Gowns worn by Princess Margaret:

IMG_4574

And now, gowns from Princess Diana (!!!):

IMG_4576

IMG_4577

IMG_4578

IMG_4579

IMG_4580

They are all so stunning– I can’t single out one dress over the others that I love the most! They are all impeccably tailored and the details are just incredible. Can I please be a princess? Pretty pretty please? Harry, you listening?? 😉 To be able to wear gowns like that would be like a real dream come true… But, alas, I guess I’ll have to just stick to writing about gowns like that for now.

Well, that’s all for tonight. See you all later from the U.K.!

Back in the fashion review business….

Hey everyone, I’m officially back from NYC… sad face. 😦 But, with that, time to get back to business on here. And as the Teen Choice Awards happened tonight, here’s my review… (Also, follow along with my travel blog here when I head to London in a few weeks!)

nina-dobrev Nina Dobrev looks gorge and haute couture. Love this fun, brightly colored/ sparkly dress!

rs_634x1024-150816164943-634.gina-rodriguez.cm.81615 The show’s hostess and “Jane the Virgin” Gina Rodriguez looks super pretty, however, I’m not super in love with her extra-long extensions.

rs_634x1024-150816164047-634.EmmaRoberts-jmd-081615 My camp alum, which makes her extra awesome obvi! Anyway. Emma Roberts always knows how to look super high fashion on a red (well, blue) carpet.

rs_634x1024-150816164038-634.lucy-hale.cm.81615 PLL darling Lucy Hale… Love her dress! And shoes! Accessories! Everything! Except her tight bun, maybe a ponytail would have worked better? I just don’t think buns are best when you have to take a “straight-on” photo for events such as a red carpet. (Makes your hair look wayyy different than it is in real life!)

rs_634x1024-150816160728-634.skylar.cm.81615 One of the best dressed males of the night goes to Pitch Perfect star Skylar Astin! Perfectly tailored outfit and fits the fun, summer vibe of the award show.

rs_634x1024-150816181632-634.Grace_Helbig-jmd-081615 Youtuber Grace Helbig: love the high fashion dress on her, and the shoes and hair all work! However, it’s not the most “teen” outfit… definitely more mature than her teen counterparts of fellow nominees and attendees. But, it still looks good.

rs_634x1024-150816181218-634.spears.cm.81615 IT’S BRITNEY. Love the super haute couture skirt on the woman who was my very first concert (in kindergarten!– yes, it was the Oops! tour.). Not a fan of her ombre-dipped locks.

rs_634x1024-150816165552-634.LeaM-jmd-081615 I love Lea Michele’s summer-y dress, however, this pose isn’t doing it justice! Love the dress/pattern/shape and the shoes! Gorge and perfect for the event!

That’s it for tonight! What are your thoughts on the fashions from the show?

My favorite looks from the Billboard Music Awards red carpet

kendall-jenner-jourdan-dunn-balmain-billboard-music-awards-2015-h724 First off, so excited to hear about the upcoming Balmain x H&M collab! (I mean, Justin Bieber’s Met Gala tux was epic!!) rs_634x1024-150517165629-634.ChrissyJohn-jmd-051715 Tonight’s hostess Chrissy Teigen looks perfect in her perfectly tailored and perfectly styled 70’s-inspired jumpsuit. It looks ahmazing on her. One of the night’s best dressed for sure!

rs_634x1024-150517170511-634.Taylor-Swift-Billboard-Music-Awards.jl.051715 And of course, Miss T. Swift looks perfect in the night’s biggest trend: jumpsuits. And her Bad Blood video? Epic. (Bonus: who caught her cats’ namesakes walking side by side? I did!) Watch it right now if you haven’t seen it.

rs_634x1024-150517155433-634.Danica-jmd-051715 DWTS alum Danica McKellar stuns in her silver, sparkly one-shouldered gown. Gorge.

rs_1024x759-150517170537-1024.OneDirection-jmd-051715 And here’s One Direction. let’s just stare at their beauty for a minute, shall we? (Liam’s smolder.) Plus, who heard Liam’s “we would like to share this with our brother Zayn??” Too adorable. (I can’t wait to see them live in their town: London! First, I saw them in my home state, and now the tables have flipped! Eeeep I’m so excited about it— best study abroad ever!)

rs_634x1024-150517161930-634.Ed-Sheeran-Billboard-Music-Awards.jl.051715 And Ed Sheeran also looks great for one of my fave artists EVER.

CEMibGNUIAALvoF Zac Posen instagrammed this shot of him and his date Katie Holmes. LOOK AT THAT GOWN. IT IS FABULOUS. LOVE LOVE LOVE IT.

CEMeNeIUUAA6KMl  Emma-Roberts-600x900 Emma Roberts also instagrammed this shot in the car ride to the gala, and she looks flawless: from her gown (color and shape!), jewels, hair and her clutch: head-to-toe perfection.

CEMmyCpUMAA-C_E Jennifer Lawrence looks fab in her sleek gown with a floral crop top: bringing an edginess to the Met Ball. Also, love the high bun to finish off the look.

CEMpA0oUgAATJvW Love Alicia Keys’ tutu-esque tulle skirt with the crop top and matching blazer. Love it! Fabulous! I want that skirt!!!

CEMpciVWoAA4pvU What red carpet is complete without Sarah Jessica Parker? SJP looks amazing in her haute couture dress that epitomizes the event theme. And who else could rock a headpiece like Carrie Bradshaw?

Screen Shot 2015-05-04 at 7.55.33 PM  CEMrQORWEAEJ_yP “Gigi” Broadway star  Vanessa Hudgens looks ah-mazing in her red, bedazzled tea-length gown and the black, sparkly bird cage mask!!! LOVE! Definitely a best-dressed contender.

Screen Shot 2015-05-04 at 7.25.19 PM Anna Wintour, who could even critique her?

Screen Shot 2015-05-04 at 7.34.45 PM Tory Burch looks gorge in a simple floral gown, love the shoulder straps!

CEMtMlwVIAA4xyS Dianna Agron is bringing a simplistic elegance to the carpet, but wow, it’s stunning.

Country music was out in full force last night in Texas for the annual ACM awards. And with that comes my red carpet breakdown! Here we go!

Screen Shot 2015-04-20 at 11.34.05 AM Kimberly of “The Band Perry.” I love this dress, which could almost function as a wedding gown. But, it’s gorge. Love it.

Screen Shot 2015-04-20 at 11.34.21 AM And let’s just look at Hunter Hayes for a second, shall we? #adorable

Screen Shot 2015-04-20 at 11.33.53 AM These two new Hollywood besties look gorge, and I’m totally obsessing over Reese’s dress: love the sparkles!

Screen Shot 2015-04-20 at 11.34.53 AM Love Jana Kramer’s dress! Everything about this is perfect for a young starlet to wear on the red carpet! I love it!

Screen Shot 2015-04-20 at 11.33.38 AM My namesake, Miranda Lambert looks very slim and gorge per always… (I think it must be the name, obvi… lol) But, loving the lilac and the draping!

Screen Shot 2015-04-20 at 11.34.36 AM Jessie James Decker and Eric Decker are the pinnacle of an adorable celeb couple, as seen on Instagram and their E! reality show “Eric and Jessie–” I wish that would come back on the air! But, their outfits are tailored to perfection and they look so glam! Love her ponytail with her simple white gown.

Screen Shot 2015-04-20 at 11.36.18 AM And no red carpet is complete without Miss Taylor Swift. T.Swift looks ahmazing here and I love her dress, the color and the cutouts! Gorge. And of course she couldn’t make a speech without plugging her newest tour right, lol?

What were your must-see looks from the night?
