My concert-filled Saturday night!

My Saturday night on August 2 was spent in my hometown of St. Louis, Missouri at the OneRepublic concert (who were supported by The Script and American Authors), none of which I had seen before.

(I’m going to be posting pictures from tonight. Please ignore the bad iPhone quality! And with OneRepublic, I ended up running out of storage. Whoops! #iphoneprobs)

IMG_2280

To start off the night, American Authors were first on stage. In fact, upon entering the arena, I heard on the radio they expected to be very “buff” at the show tonight.

IMG_2283  IMG_2288

American Authors, the Brooklyn-based band, sounded very chill, throughout their entire set. I liked it.

Next, The Script took the stage. Did you all know they hail from the U.K.–more specifically, Dublin? I did not, until they kept saying “litrelly” instead of literally. During the first song, lead singer Danny O’Donoghue ran through the crowd.

IMG_2308

Then, they played Breakeven.

After much anticipation from their new album, The Script debuted their NEW single, Superheroes tonight! So good, loved it!

To lead into Nothing, O’Donoghue borrowed a fan’s phone and called her ex-boyfriend to sing him the song. At the end of the song he added, “They’re never ever getting back together.”

IMG_2302

O’Donoghue even added they keep coming back to St. Louis because of  [and I quote!] “the good bars and the good hangovers!” I actually laughed out loud at that one.

Next, they played For the First Time. O’Donoghue spent an entire song in the crowd, even approaching where I was sitting in the way back!

They then asked for everyone to light up the stage via their phones and they sang Hall of Fame. They sounded very chill live. Loved it.

Finally, after twenty minutes in between, OneRepublic came on stage.

IMG_2311

They played the entire first song behind a giant white sheet, where their shadows alternated, making a cool effect.

IMG_2316 IMG_2319

They had plenty of cool video effects, on both the main screen and the smaller screens further away. They then played Secrets.

They then led into All the Right Moves. It was a very chill (which is fast becoming my favorite word for this post it seems) performance, and lead singer Ryan Tedder’s piano solo! Woah, talented. Also, he seems like such a chill dude, based on this performance and the things he said. (Like, “So ominous” and “it’s a pub song” to intro Only Live Once.)

Then, Tedder grabbed one of the cameras filming him, and started to film the fans! How cool.

Tedder, a few songs later, came back out alone, sat at his piano, and played Apologize and then a cover of Stay with Me by Sam Smith, a song I’m loving this month!

IMG_2321

(I ran out of storage here, but it was so pretty!!)

Tedder then adds that he doesn’t “normally write songs about people. But, if you stay true to who you are for 85 years..” Which is how he ended up writing, and performing, a song about his grandfather, the preacher. Oh my gosh, the VOCALS!

OneRepublic should definitely stick to more ballads… To show off their AMAZING vocals more! During a guitar solo, Tedder says, “That was flawless.” Yes, it was. So, was the whole performance.

I think that the little bits of personality a performer adds to the show makes it so much better. Because knowing the band’s having fun, makes the audience have more fun. And with Tedder, they did that.

Talking about writing songs, Tedder said, “If something gives me goosebumps, I operate on the assumption that others will get them. [And that’s what he writes.]… That’s how Kesha confused me,” he adds with a laugh.

He then adds, “Can you help me out? I have no idea what I’m doing. As usual.” Clearly meant as a joke, it segued them into Counting Stars, the big hit of early summer.

He said some funny lines about being in St. Louis for prior gigs playing less than 100 people, but it’s very much an inside joke to St. Louis, so I won’t repeat it here.

Then, it was his son Copeland’s fourth birthday, so he asked us to wish him a happy birthday for him. Awww. Then he plays I Lived, which he wrote for his son.

“Thanks for hanging with us St. Louis,” Tedder says. (Sings) “Beautiful.”

For the encore, they sang Love Runs Out, a cover of What a Wonderful World to which Tedder said, “I wish I wrote this song!” and If I Lose Myself. He then realizes he was supposed to get us to sing happy birthday to his son. So, he goes to record it and adds, “Will you help me be the coolest dad ever?” and then, “Do we have enough battery? Because that would suck.” Rest assured, there was plenty of storage available, unlike my phone.

I think it would be so much fun to be a journalist on tour with an artist! Another thing to add the journalism career wish list of mine.

Tedder has some great vocals! I was pleasantly surprised, because you can’t hear those types of pipes on the radio—it doesn’t do his range justice.

At the end he said, “This is ‘If I Lose Myself.’ Stay around for three and a half more minutes. I promise it won’t suck!” Lol.

Confetti falls. Song ends. Crowd erupts in applause. “Thank you, St. Louis.”

Great show. For someone unaware of most of the music from these artists, I enjoyed it.

Getting Fashion Inspiration from TV

It’s no secret that “Pretty Little Liars” is one of my all-time television guilty pleasures. But as much as I live for the drama of the plot, I’m obsessed with the wardrobe put together by costume designer, Mandi Line. (You may recall her work from MTV’s “Faking It”, Abc Family’s “Greek”, “The Clique” movie, Lifetime’s “Drop Dead Diva,” among others.)

My personal style as inspired by PLL: I’m mostly a Hanna or a Spencer, though Aria has some pretty cute pieces.

Here’s what Mandi Line said about our favorite Liars’ signature looks:

Aria’s (Lucy Hale) eclectic, trendy style

“Aria wears trends but she doesn’t do it because they’re cool, she does it because likes them.”

Spencer’s (Troian Bellisario) old-school, preppy style

Screen Shot 2014-08-01 at 2.43.12 PM Screen Shot 2014-08-01 at 2.51.02 PM Screen Shot 2014-08-01 at 2.31.20 PM Screen Shot 2014-08-01 at 2.23.45 PM

“I want to make sure her story looks like she stole something from her mom’s closet, yet she went shopping and topped it off with something classic. I always say Spencer is classic with a twist.”

Emily’s (Shay Mitchell) athletic, simplistic style

Screen Shot 2014-08-01 at 2.55.47 PM Screen Shot 2014-08-01 at 3.03.48 PM

“Emily (Shay Mitchell) to me has had the biggest arc of all the characters because when she came out with her sexuality, she also came out with her strength to speak what she was feeling through her fashion.”

Hanna’s (Ashley Benson) trendy, girly style

Screen Shot 2014-08-01 at 2.30.52 PM Screen Shot 2014-08-01 at 2.56.29 PM Screen Shot 2014-08-01 at 3.05.02 PM

“Hannah, or Ms. Ashley Benson, is probably the funniest and most wild one I have. She always wants shorter, sexier and higher heels. Over the seasons she has gotten more risky.”

Check out Mandi Line’s full interview with Huffington Post here: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/01/07/pretty-little-liars-best-dressed_n_4549404.html

The four girls have very distinct plot lines, something that is shown through their wardrobe. Hanna is very glamorous, trendy, and girly. Spencer is classic preppy. Aria is the eclectic risk taker when it comes to fashion (i.e. wearing multiple prints and making it work). Emily is the athletic tomboy, which is the polar opposite of Shay’s real-life glam style.

Which Liar are you most like? An Aria, Hanna, Spencer, Emily, or a mixture?

Big News, Bachelorette Fans!

That’s right, Bachelor Nation, Andi Dorfman said “YES!” to contender Josh Murray’s proposal, but not without a little drama from her runner-up Nick Viall.

Watching the finale, I admit I squealed. It was evident Josh was in love… And that homemade baseball card with Andi’s “stats?” Priceless! (Especially when it said, ‘Andi Murray!’)

Of course, Nick (who claimed to be the “frontrunner” all season long), threw us all for a loop when he insisted he was still in love with Andi and that she made a mistake. (Can it be noted that this happened AFTER she was already engaged?!?)

Congratulations Josh & Andi! I wish you all the luck and love of past Bachelor success stories, like Des & Chris, Sean & Catherine, Ashley & JP, and Trista & Ryan. (You had this fan rooting for you since Day 1.)

Celebs spotted: One Direction

On July 21, I read an article on Buzzfeed, http://www.buzzfeed.com/lyapalater/this-is-how-the-boys-of-one-direction-dress-for-a-wedding#, and being a 1D fan, I knew I had to blog about it (excuse the late post), I mean, I’ve even seen them live in concert last year– such a great moment.

So, back to the article. Louis’ mum (he’s British, I had to.) recently got married, and most of his bandmates were in attendance. Also there, his girlfriend Eleanor Calder who posed as a bridesmaid by the looks of it. (Such a fashion icon herself.)

Here’s Louis rocking a blue suit.

And Niall sporting a perfectly tailored navy suit and rockin’ some Ray-Bans.

enhanced-9050-1405952063-1 enhanced-8372-1405952074-1

And Liam was there too.

enhanced-8583-1405952072-1 enhanced-9201-1405952853-1

And then, there’s Harry. (Always a “trendsetter” that one…)

enhanced-4978-1405952080-27

We’ve all seen the boys rock their signature boy band style from tours, interviews, and music videos, but wedding attire is completely different for the X Factor band.

I have a wedding coming up soon, and what I wouldn’t give to have one of these boys as a plus one (not to mention they’ll literally be in my hometown TWO days prior.)

Going Shopping…

When I go shopping, I always end up “just looking” more than anything. I go through all the stores in the mall, without a single shopping bag (haha, college student problems…) as I take mental notes of what I like, mostly for Pinspiration.

Here’s some looks from my recent shopping escapades:

20140716-113700-41820193.jpg

I love this middle outfit from BCBG Max Azria, the designer I wore for my Bat Mitzvah and again for my senior prom. It’s gorge. I love the royal blue color of the dress paired with the chunky statement necklace. Perhaps adding a leather moto jacket would complete the look? (Make it more casual.)

20140716-113946-41986389.jpg

I adore these Kate Spade glittery heels. Adorbs. Talk about an updated ruby slipper for Dorothy in Oz! 🙂

20140716-114059-42059867.jpg

Another Kate Spade shoe, this time a flat reminiscent of Carrie’s engagement Manolos from Sex and the City. Love these.

20140716-114242-42162079.jpg

And I’m utterly obsessed with these Valentino stilettos all the stylish celebs are wearing, talk about show envy! These are amazing! (Check out the color options! Ah-mazing!)

That’s all for now. More shopping adventures to come. Keep you posted. ❤ xx

What I Like (Regarding Style and Fashion)

I’m a preppy girl. But here’s the thing, at my school, everyone is preppy (both the girls and the guys.) Our campus could easily be an ad for Vineyard Vines or Lilly Pulitzer. And while I love being a Lilly girl and being J.Crew-level preppy, I also don’t feel like I stand out. A reason why I always choose unique Lilly pieces, or unique preppy staples, is because while it’s still preppy, it feels like more like me (not just another face in the crowd).

Growing up, I didn’t really have a set “style,” I kind of just wore what I liked. At my elementary, middle, and high schools, there were definitely the popular “preps,” the “jocks,” and my friends–the ‘quirky,’ smart kids who didn’t really fit a mold. So, I wore what I liked, and sometimes I fit in with my friends and other times I fit with the other cliques.

Now in college, I realize how important it is to be me. I don’t need to prove who I am through my clothes. It’s MY personal style, and that’s exactly how I act. Honestly? I’ve walked into the Vineyard Vines outlet near my school and have only gotten one thing (and I’ve been there many times). I’m not interested in being the cookie-cutter preppy girl that everyone else is (not that there’s anything wrong with that), but it’s not me. Also, cost plays a huge factor. I’m paying for four years of college right now, how can I afford to have a complete head-to-toe J.Crew or Lilly wardrobe? Most of my designer staples have been purchased at outlet malls, and no one knows the difference. While at times I think it’d be nice to wear more Lilly or preppy pieces, it’s just not practical right now, at least not until I’m finished with college.

My first year in college this past year, I admit I sort of struggled fitting in. I thought I had to up how preppy my wardrobe was to fit in at my Southern school. I went with a group from my school on Taglit Birthright earlier this summer, and it wasn’t until then (and coming home) how much time I thought about other peoples’ clothes and how I fit in. We all wore athletic clothes together, saw each other at our grossest (hiking and sweating does that to a person), and it still didn’t matter–they’re my friends, good friends: like a family. It goes to show you how clothes can’t determine who you are. They should merely be a reflection of what you see in yourself. And me? I see a preppy girl whose individualism is clearly shown, in my personality and in my wardrobe.

I’m sorry for that little rant. It’s just been something I’ve been thinking about recently. xx
